Due to scheduling issues at the Central Library, we’re canceling the 6p service on May 17. We’ll be packing our whole church into the AM services (8:30, 10, 11:30a) on May 17 for our Commitment Sunday. It will be a party, complete with Oak View Tacos following each service.

There are certain days in the year that just feel special. This Sunday is one of them. We are taking time to celebrate moms and all the women who are making a difference in our lives. It reminds me of my mom, and even though she passed away a short time ago, I am able to reflect back and celebrate her. Growing up, it was just dad and us boys, so we had no idea how to celebrate mom. That is why Sunday church was such a blessing. It gave us a great way to begin to honor our mom. So whether it is little gifts, many flowers, fondue stations, a photo booth, or even cards for you to fill out for mom (just in case you forgot), we are going to help you celebrate this Sunday. And I’m really excited about the message, because we are going to see what it looks like to be a difference maker. And don’t we all want to make a difference?
Don’t forget, we will be doing baptism’s after service on May 24. It is a great opportunity to celebrate your faith, not only personally with God, but with your church family. If you or a family member has a desire, please contact Cole at cbeshore@marinerschurch.org

We moved on Monday. It’s yet to become home to us. We’ve spent every night there since Monday. So, I say “moved” only to indicate that all the stuff that was once at our house in Irvine has made its way to our new house in Mission Viejo. It’s all there. All of it. So much of it.
In surveying all the things that wound up in a pile in our garage — a pile reminiscent of a hamster habitat complete with wrong turns and hidden dangers — we started wondering why we we boxed, taped, and moved so many broken, unusable, and unsalvageable things to a new house. Tomorrow a new dumpster (our third one) will arrive… because we have MORE stuff that must be thrown away.
In one dusty box that I nearly tossed immediately into the dumpster (following the pattern of countless other boxes before it) I paused to look inside. In it was a relic of a bygone era: a $50 travelers’ check. Granted, I’m not sure many places would even know what to do with one. But, I have it. I almost threw it away despite its value.
Where no value was explicitly clear, there was something of value within a dusty and worn exterior. This is what mothers do. It is what God does. They see what others refuse to see. They see that there is something worthy to be loved — even if misunderstood by everyone else. To be loved for a value far greater than whatever worn out, endlessly polished, or exhausted shell in which we live, is what every heart desires. It’s what every heart needs.
So, to every mom who demonstrated to us a tiny slice of this kind of love, thank you. You see us as we are and love us all the more. This weekend we’ll honor moms, mother figures, and moms-yet-to-be. Join us as Doug Fields teaches and the patio is full of photo ops, chocolate fountains, and card-making stations. Bring your mom and any mom-type friends of yours. It’s going to be beautiful.

I can’t wait to celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend with you! As I look back over my many years of worshiping at Mariners, I can recall the different seasons of my life when God met me in powerful ways on Mother’s Day. When I was adjusting to my role as a new wife, as I was struggling with infertility, and then later feeling the joy and the sometimes overwhelming feeling of being a mom of four. Through all these seasons God showed Himself as faithful and continued to remind me of His great love. I know God will speak powerfully through Kenton and our service to honor and celebrate the moms and women in our life. There’s lots of fun planned… you can take a picture at one of our photo booths, enjoy a yummy treat on the patio and write a card for that special mom in your life. Be sure to invite your mom, family and friends to join us on this special weekend! And don’t worry men….your weekend is coming up in June!
