A Note From Tim Keller

Last weekend, it was amazing to watch as many got baptized during our services. This was a beautiful picture of the active work God is doing in hearts throughout our community! Jeff Maguire reminded us that through baptism, we are not only given new life in the body of Christ, but we are baptized into the body of Christ, which is the community called the church. What a great reminder that we need one another in order to walk out our faith!

On Tuesday, we had our Community Kickoff and hundreds of you jumped into Rooted and Life Groups. It was so great bringing everyone together, reminding us of our need to be known and connected. It was powerful seeing so many of you taking bold steps into fellowship and I can’t wait to see the way God will meet you as you build friendships in your groups. For those of you that may have missed it, it isn’t too late to get connected in a Rooted group – Just come to the MV Campus on Tuesday at 6:30p and I will help you get connected!

This weekend, Doug Fields will be with us to share a message out of God’s Word. Please plan to join us as we worship together. I look forward to seeing you on the patio after services!

Coming to a theater near you, “The Art of Relationships,” premieres this Sunday at all services: 8:30, 10, 11:30a & 6p!

Maybe we should have called this series, “The Making of a Relational Genius,” since the Netflix mini-series is all the buzz. With cultural “buzz” in mind, I’m calling the first message in the series this Sunday—“People, Politics, and Winning the Lottery.” It should be fun!

It looks like I might have gotten my almost-3-year-old sick. He’s been down for three days straight. The doctor visit was yesterday and we think we have it taken care of, but the medicine prescribed was expensive. It reminded me how I would spend any amount of money to help my family get well. No cost is too high.

Why? Because relationships are what life is all about. They are the fabric of life. Relationships—and how you interact with others in this world—is of paramount importance. It’s not possible to overstate this point.

Whether your relationships are thriving or taking a nosedive right now, you’re going to want to be at each message in this series. And you will want to invite people in your life that you love.

I’m looking forward to being with you Sunday.

Lastly, if you’re someone who hasn’t yet done Rooted… jump in! I’m kicking off Rooted TONIGHT at the Rodgers Seniors Center (1706 Orange Ave) and I want to see you there! Walk up registration is welcome and dinner is included!

It was so great being back with you last week. Even though I wasn’t truly gone, I had not spoken on a Sunday morning for three weeks, so it’s nice to be getting back into a rhythm. The other fun part was the pleasure I had to stand up front and share such a great picture of where we are financially. You have been incredibly generous and to think that we are at a place where we can break even with our budget is amazing. Thank you for your faithfulness to God and Mariners Ocean Hills.

This week, we’ll continue talking about Rooted. Community is such an important part of the life of our church. If you haven’t gone through Rooted please genuinely give it some prayer and thought. And if you have gone through Rooted, in the coming weeks we will be talking about Life Groups, the next step after Rooted in finding community.  Bottom line, if you are not in a group, we are entering the perfect season to get into one.

There is no greater place where ministry happens than out front of our church, on our patio and lawn. I love how we have gone from an area of mud to a turf field where kids and families can play. Plus, it will be the perfect place for some of our big celebrations – Harvest Carnival, Tree Lighting and our picnics! We are hoping to pay for the turf outside of our general offering, so if you would like to donate to the turf “above and beyond” your normal offering, that would be a blessing. We are currently one-quarter of the way to paying it off, so please pray about jumping in. And whether it be a big gift or a small one, they are all a blessing to our church.

I hope you are enjoying our series, Tune In where we have been looking at how to be connected with God. I look forward to sharing with you this weekend as we continue in the series.

Blessings,
Jeff

Last weekend’s message by Pastor Kenton was one of the most compelling I’ve heard on community.

In it, we were reminded that God speaks powerfully through community and that He desires for all of us to be in a place where we are connected and known. The pull of our world is to isolate or pursue relationships that are self-serving, but God has so much more for us!

This past week I got to witness the greatest number of walk-ins that we have ever had begin their journey of community through Rooted. This month thousands of you will jump-start your Life Group rhythms during our group connect this Sunday and our group launch on the 21st. And, in the coming weeks, we will be sharing about how our entire church can jump into community during the upcoming Art of Relationships series. There’s a place for you! Don’t miss out on getting connected in community here at Mariners.

This weekend Kenton will continue our Tune In series by looking at how God speaks to us through prayer. What do you think about when you consider prayer? For some it may seem like some mystically or unattainable practice. For others, prayer can be viewed like a direct 911 line to the ear of God. In reality, prayer is so much more! Don’t miss this week as we take a practical and compelling look at the WHY and HOW of prayer together.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the patio this weekend!

John
