A Note From Caleb Anderson

MessageFrom-HB

I read a quote today that I found in an old journal. It says,

“You will consistently perform in alignment with what you believe to be true about yourself.”

Let me take this moment to remind you of a few things that are true about YOU:

– God is pleased with how he designed you (Gen 1:31, Eph 2:10)

– You are God’s kid (John 1:12)

– God’s Spirit is with you, and in you (1 Cor 3:16)

– Jesus calls you his buddy (John 15:15)

– You are new, clean, and have a fresh start (2 Cor 5:17)

– God gives you new strength today (Isaiah 40:29)

– You don’t have to be afraid-you’re stronger than you think
(2 Tim 1:7)

– Jesus is with you…still…right now (Matthew 28:20)

May you believe what’s true and act accordingly.

Hilary’s dad and step-mom have been in town and staying at our home this week. Dad has been a heroic handyman–updating our garage, hanging a new gate, covering our back patio—while step-mom has freezer-sealed 30 home-cooked meals for our next month of dinners. Amazing! And generous.

Generosity is powerful.

Don’t miss this Sunday. It will be an important day for many. And I’ll give you some new and old information about the Step In campaign process and our journey to our next home. Visit StepInHB.com if you haven’t seen the latest renderings.

See you Sunday!

Recently, in a Chick-fil-A, I witnessed an awkward moment. Two guys were sitting near me having lunch when they saw someone they recognized…

• Hey, that guy over there in line looks like Eric.
• That is Eric!
• No, really?
• Yeah, that’s him.
• Did he see you?
• I don’t know.
• Is he walking over here?
• Oh, hey Eric.
• Hey guys, having lunch?
• Yep…… (awkward pause)…. want to sit down?

It was lunch at Chick-fil-A, and I had a front row seat for the awkward interaction of three co-workers – two of whom were enjoying lunch together – and a third uninvited co-worker who obviously felt left out.

We all feel left out at some point. And feeling left out stinks.

On one hand, you can’t manage everyone’s emotions and/or control whether or not someone’s feelings get hurt. That falls into the people-pleasing category.

On the other hand, you don’t want to be insensitive, callous, or careless with people either.

Like Jesus said, we honor God by loving and caring for others. That’s what matters most in life, and that means we live in the tension of rolling out the red carpet without being a doormat.

First, embrace that tension. Next, embrace an outsider.

There is someone in your life who is standing alone in line and feels uninvited. Ask him or her to sit down and have a chicken sandwich with you and your friends. What will it hurt? And think of all the ways it might help…

Especially on MOTHER’S DAY… Think about the women in your life who could use a phone call, a note, or a personal invite to church. If possible, bring them with you this Sunday (8:30, 10, 11:30a & 6p). We’ll help you make them feel special.

Motherhood isn’t always easy. Every day, moms are challenged to find the balance between love, strength, grace and courage. This Mother’s Day, we want to honor all moms and all they do to make the world a better place through the Art of Being a Mom.

WORRY is a killer. Worry kills our moods, steals from our moments, occupies our time, and taints our outlook. And we all worry – some of us more than others. But no one is immune.

However, one of the “crazy” things Jesus said is not to worry. As in, you don’t have to. Even if worry has become so normal that you don’t notice it anymore, it does not have to be your standard mode of operation.

Sunday we’re going to talk about how Jesus says we can put worry in its place. Join us, and bring a friend with you! (8:30, 10, 11:30a, 6p)

Additionally, I’ll be showing up to serve in Oak View on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing many of you there! The impact our church is making in Oak View-and HB, is inspiring. And we’re just getting started!

What a special Sunday we just had. Monica and our volunteers shared their passion and challenged us to fill our bags and build relationships. We have already heard several stories about how our church is jumping in and doing our part.

So, what are you putting in your bag? Tell us…show us…join us!

This upcoming Sunday we will continue in our Things I Wish Jesus Never Said series and I have a unique message that I can’t wait to share with you. The inspiration came in a counseling session, and the impact is profound. It will make you think differently.

If you aren’t connected to a group yet, this weekend is the perfect opportunity—Life Group Connect, happening on the patio. Life is better in community with other good people.

If you missed last week’s message, you can listen here.

See you Sunday…

Caleb
