“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”  Revelation 3:20

Some people think (or act like) following Jesus is a one-time decision then we fall into maintenance-mode and lifestyle management-trying not to screw up in the “big” ways. That’s crap.

Above, Jesus says, “as friends.” Friendship has levels of deepening, knowing, depending. I think that God keeps knocking… on new doors in your life… wanting to take you further in this adventure of life.

You have a door in your life that’s still closed. A place with a “do not disturb” sign on it. A “no-fly zone.”

What if you opened a new door to the God who created everything, knows everything, and whispers to your soul…

“There’s more for you”

“There’s a new level”

“There’s more freedom”

“There’s more joy”

“There’s more possibility”

Maybe Jesus is knocking and you’re ignoring. Or, perhaps, there was a season you ignored so long that now all the sounds in your life are muffled.

This Sunday will be a special day of breakthrough for many. Don’t miss it. Make sure your friend who is dry and disconnected from God makes it to one of our four services-8:30, 10, 11:30a & 6p.

I’m praying for you today, and looking forward to seeing you soon…

Message Series: Social Reset

socialreset_compass-graphic2

Kick off 2017 by rethinking your relationships. All of life (and the entire Bible) is ultimately about relationships. But in our culture of speed, social media, and artificial connections, what God says about how relationships flourish or fail might surprise you. Don’t miss this provocative teaching series.

SOCIAL RESET
Sunday: 8:30, 10, 11:30a & 6p
Huntington Beach Central Library Theater
7111 Talbert Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92648

I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”  Psalm 91:2 (NIV)

If the singer/psalmist is saying the above, then it means there is good reason for him to say something else. And it’s likely that outside voices are shouting something else at him. Perhaps something like,

“Why don’t you defend yourself?”

“Why don’t you fight your enemy?”

“Why don’t you run away and hide and forget all of this? Abandon your pipe dream!”

But our guy sings a song. Songs are sticky–they have a way of sticking in your mind. We hum them while we work. We sing them in the shower and in the car. They just come out of us when we’re excited and sometimes anxious. These are the kind of words that the author wanted on his lips. So he put them to a melody. A melody that was in contrast to the stress and insecurity he was wrestling with.

He was reminding himself, his friends, his family, and billions more who would read these words that there is an invisible God who is more trustworthy than swords and spears–bombs and bank accounts.

We like to trust in things we can touch. Which is fine. But there are times when even those things are exposed as not enough. Then, where do you turn? Who is your hope?

Sing a song… let it stir your invisible and eternal soul to the truth… there is a God just beyond your sight who has everything–EVERYTHING–in the palm of his hand.

Oh, and this God made you, breathes life into you, and really loves you a lot.

What a weekend!

Were you there? Have you heard? I was in Detroit—of all places—but I keep hearing from people how special this past Sunday was. Sometimes, our well-intended plans fall apart or disaster strikes and brings uncertainty with it. But… God is bigger. God is up to something. God is with you.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Never rely on what you think you know. Remember the Lord in everything you do, and he will show you the right way.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

I’m so grateful for our amazing staff and volunteers who serve us—and our community—every Sunday and all throughout the week. Even in the middle of challenge, when we stay together and look to God, great things happen.

I hope you’re with us this Sunday as we continue the Social Reset series. It will be another Sunday to remember!

Praying for you and your relationships today. May God bless you and give you peace.

Hey guys!
What an incredible week. Finally stepping foot in the building that we have prayed and worked for over two years to get was surreal. I walked in and felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I started to think of the thousands of people who will find community, love, and the unconditional love of Jesus in our new location and I was emotional.
I was emotional for two reasons:

  1. I never realized how bad I looked in a hard hat.
  2. I saw that God is and has been in control the entire time, and He has chosen this as the perfect time for this move. How exciting that we will be able to look back at this moment 20 years from now and say, “I was there when….”

My excitement is even more when I see the series that we are in (Social Reset) and I see the vision of meaningful community and conversation reaching a city that is hurting and isolating. This week we will be continuing in our relationship series and talking about MARRIAGE. Before you tune out or schedule a root canal so you don’t have to hear about what a terrible spouse you are, let me propose that this will be a different take on marriage than you’ve ever heard before. God doesn’t want you to feel defeated. God wants what you want…to have better more intimate relationships.

See you guys this Sunday!
