A Note From Caleb Anderson

MessageFrom-HB

You’re in for a Compass treat today! I asked the newly married champion of our Outreach Ministry, Monica Bannister, to write a note today. Read it below!

Caleb

It is a true privilege to be a part of this community at Mariners HB! Last night my husband and I had our life group over for dinner; through the moments of shared laughter, conversations about the joys and pains of life, and Mexican food, I was reminded of God’s faithfulness and the beautiful blessings He gives us through living life in community. This month marks three years since I moved here from WA state. I now feel at home here because of the community God has surrounded me with. I hope you experience the same beauty and blessing of this community too. If you haven’t gotten plugged in yet, there are many ways each week to get involved!

One of my favorite things about this community is the way we love those around us…the way we serve this city…I believe our church is fearlessly changing this city and the world, one person at a time. This Saturday (6/20) we have two ways for you to join us in making a difference: the Oak View Community Father’s Day Celebration and the Murdy Community Center Summer Kick-Off. Next weekend, we’re traveling to Mexico for the day to do construction on a local church in Tijuana and to build relationships with the community there. (See below in the Compass for more details on all these events!)

When we show up and serve, we get to love others the way God loves us and immeasurable joy inevitably follows as our community grows and we encounter God in new ways…Join us!! Or send me a quick note. I would love to chat with you about more ways you can make a difference in our community. My email is mbannister@marinerschurch.org

We’re in the middle of our series called Listen. Caleb will be teaching this Sunday, and continuing to guide us in practical ways that we can hear God’s voice.

And…Sunday is Father’s Day!! It’s going to be a great celebration…Fathers will be honored and encouraged. Make sure to bring the men in your life!

I am grateful to live life alongside all of you!

Monica

Dads. They show us that being a man is more than just eating your body weight in bacon. They help us build forts and our confidence. When life knocks us around, they pick us up and dust us off. Dads love us unconditionally through the trophies and the tears. Join us as we celebrate the fathers in our lives.

There’s often confusion around prayer and what it means to hear from God. In our series, Listen, we are attempting to eliminate the weirdness and even the religious mumbo-jumbo that can block people from having their own encounters with their Creator. Join us Sunday as we continue the conversation and talk about perhaps the most mysterious aspect of prayer–the Holy Spirit.

And, as always, remember that God loves you…Other people do too…And there’s a unique contribution that only you can make–in our church, and in the world.

Did you know that you can hear from God with your eyes? That’s what we’ll talk about Sunday, 8:30, 10, 11:30a and 6p. Be there…and bring someone with you who needs a fresh perspective on God.

Our LISTEN series is off to a great start and people are “experimenting” with tuning out distractions to better tune in to what God might be saying. If you missed last week, catch up here.

We have 50 men from our church going on the Mariners Network Men’s Retreat this weekend! For perspective, two years ago we had two men. Last year we had 12. Our church is growing rapidly and people are connecting in community.

If you’re not connected, why not? There are tons of ways. Look below in the highlights of this email. Find someone on the patio this Sunday. But most importantly, be open. Be open to trying new things, meeting new people, serving someone else, and taking risks. We care about you, and we want you to feel at home here.

See you Sunday!

The ministry of Jesus is the ministry of freedom. What would it look like for us to encounter Him today, to be healed and to experience the freedom only He can give? Join us for a very special all-campus gathering where Anglican Pastor, international speaker, author and founder of Soul Survivor Ministries, Mike Pilavachi, will lead us through God’s Word and a powerful time of prayer ministry, specifically for those seeking emotional, spiritual and physical healing. I was at the U2 concert last night. It was my first U2 concert, and it lived up to expectations.

There’s something about gathering with people, united around an agreement that we love something—even if it’s just a group of middle-aged musicians from the north side of Dublin.

It reminded me that there’s something even more special…more sacred…when we gather together to agree that there is a God who is not only the Creator of the world, the universe, and all creation, but He is also the RE-creator of our experience of life. He’s the one who is still giving us love, newness of life, passion for today and hope for tomorrow. He’s the one who gives us a reason to keep on going. He’s the one who gives us assurance that better things are still coming. He’s the one.

It’s a beautiful day. And it’s because there is a God who is with you…who is renewing you…And this God is a God you can know.

I’m really excited about the new series we’re starting Sunday called LISTEN. It’s about how we can learn to listen to God, and actually hear from Him. As I’ve been preparing the message this week, I have a sense that this series will be a game-changer for many of us. Don’t miss a Sunday.

It is also so exciting to see that commitments and contributions to the STEP IN campaign that are coming in from many of you. THANK YOU! The future is bright.

For those of you—and it’s still MOST of you—who haven’t yet filled out a commitment card, please do. It helps us plan and determine what we can and can’t afford to do in the new space. We need you.

I love you and I’m grateful for you…and I’m praying for you today.

The wind is blowing as I type this. The wind reminds me that God is still living and active all around us. I can’t see the wind… But I can see the effects of the wind. We can’t see God, but we can see His activity all around us.

We’re seeing it in our church…
– lives are being changed
– marriages are finding new hope
– kids are deciding to follow God
– practical miracles are unfolding and leading us to a new church home

Miracle 1
The City Council votes to change the zoning, allowing us to be in the Regency Theater building.

Miracle 2
The owner of the building participates in the sale by donating to Mariners Church (two others negotiating the deal also make large donations).

Miracle 3 (in progress)
God helps our church raise $1.5-2M to purchase the theater and upgrade it for our church.

Commitment Sunday was last week and was a big step in that direction. THANK YOU to those of you who are already participating. And if you haven’t yet, feel free to make a commitment this Sunday or in the near future. We need EVERYBODY to make this thing happen. It’s going to be amazing to watch this journey unfold. Make sure you’re part of it.

Sunday Night
We’re back at 6p and we’ll have something special on the patio for you that will be a hit.

See you soon,
Caleb
