MessageFrom-IR-joeHello everyone!

Summer is in full effect – and what a week it’s been here at Mariners!

We’ve received great feedback from so many of you about last weekend’s speaker Danielle Strickland. Danielle’s message on freedom from Galatians 5:1 is definitely worth checking out online if you missed it. Or maybe it’s time to watch it again if you’re fighting fear this week.

With over 2,000 kids from our community experiencing VBS, the campus has been electric as our kids build relationships and learn about God’s love and power! Each year over 1,000 volunteers [over half from our Student Ministry!] serve our kids by directing them to Jesus’ heart of love and redemption. Through VBS, the kids are raising money to support a village in Egypt – so make sure to donate or stop by a lemonade stand this week!

This weekend our friend Jud Wilhite from Central Christian Church in Arizona will be speaking. Jud is a tremendously gifted pastor, author, and speaker and we are looking forward to having him back at Mariners as we continue in our book of James series.

I hope you have a memorable July 4th with family and friends!

MessageFrom-IR

Allure is just a lure.” What a great reminder from James last week about how shrewd Satan is, knowing exactly the type of bait to tempt and entice us towards evil. My prayer for you today and this week is that you are like the “big fish,” able to spot the lures that Satan puts in front of you. Continue resisting temptation and standing firm in the truth, love, and life that God has for you.

FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND!
This weekend is always one of my favorites at Mariners Church! I love all the fun we have for our dads and families, especially the patio with the cars, trucks, root beer (and bacon:) and spending time with one another. We’ll celebrate all of who God is as we worship and look at God’s Word together, remembering that He is good, He is perfect, He is present, He is encouraging and loving, speaking to us with truth and grace. I had a chance to sit down with a couple of great leaders, husbands and fathers (USC football coach, Clay Helton, and legendary UCLA coach, Terry Donahue) and you’ll get to hear some great thoughts from them on fatherhood. This promises to be a special weekend, so invite the men in your life: your friends, your neighbors, your teammates and your classmates to come and join us.

Peace…

Kyle

Dads, we’re their number one fans! We want to thank them for reminding us how they did it back in the day, to walk it off, and that a little hard work never hurt anyone. Join us as we honor the fathers in our lives with cool cars, sports, activities on the patio and of course, bacon and root beer. It’s time for Dadfest!

MessageFrom-IR

This past weekend, I had the privilege of being with nearly 400 Men of Mariners at Man Camp up in the mountains. Not only did we eat, laugh, and compete as you would expect, but I was blown away how everyone leaned into God, inviting Him to speak and lead. Together, we unpacked our church verse…

No eye has seen, no ear has heard and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.
1 Corinthians 2:9

It was beautiful seeing the men of our church taking seriously His invitation to reshape their identity as His kids, knowing and believing that He has prepared good things for them. We worshiped and sang at the top of our lungs. We took time to pray for one another and we responded courageously to God’s invitation to say, “I Believe!” Many men were baptized as a public expression of their trust and faith in Jesus. I believe the ripple effects of this weekend will continue throughout our families, our workplaces, and Orange County as we courageously become who God calls us to be as His followers.

Last weekend, we launched our new series in the Book of James: Faith in Action and considered how joy can be built through endurance and testing. This week, we’ll continue looking at what the younger brother of Jesus wants to teach us surrounding temptation. Have you ever considered the difference between trials and temptations? Is there a difference? What is the point of a temptation, anyway? And, how can we withstand it and choose to move away from what seems impossible and move toward who God created us to be as His kids? Invite your friends and family to join us as we pursue Jesus together in community.

Looking forward to being with you all!

Peace…

Kyle
