As the weather begins to warm up, we are definitely moving into summer. That said, there is a lot going on here at Mariners Ocean Hills. Summer means we have moved into the month of June and I want to make you aware why this is an important month for us as a church. June 30th marks the end of our fiscal year, which means we will be at the end of our budget cycle. This is important to our church for two reasons.

First, it lets us know where we are financially as a church. You may not know this, but two years ago we were behind budget by 27%, and last year we were behind by 18%. This year, we are currently only 2% behind, which is amazing! This is truly an incredible picture of how far we have come as a church because of your generosity. I’m sure you would join me in thinking how great it would be if we made budget this year. I share this information with you because I know you care about our church and I believe your prayers and generosity can be the difference in how we finish this year and launch into the next.

Second, we set our budget for the 2016/2017 year based on where we end this year. We have many opportunities for ministry in the coming year, so making budget will enable us to create the type of financial planning that allows us to do even more ministry.

Needless to say, June is an important month for us financially, so I ask that you prayerfully consider how you can participate.

This Sunday, I will be finishing up our series titled, Things I Wish Jesus Never Said. I hope you have enjoyed the series as much as I have. The following weekend (June 19), we will have a great Father’s Day service, and after that, we will be moving into a new series based on the Book of James. I’m really excited about our James series. It’s a practical look at many of the areas in life we struggle with every day. We will also be having the first of our summer events, kicking off with a Luau on June 26, at 6p. It will be a great night of dinner, fire dancers, shaved ice, tattoos, a live band and many more activities. Make sure you are there and invite a friend!

As always, it is great doing life and ministry with you,

Jeff

Camp is always a fun part of summer and this weekend the men of our church are going to find out just how fun it can be as they head out to Man Camp. Please be praying that they have a great experience with the other guys and with God. Our church places a great value on community and oftentimes the best community is found when we get away from the fast pace of daily life. There are still two spots open, so if you know anyone who might be interested, send them our way.

Speaking of camp, the high school students are going to Lost Canyon on August 8-12. Doug Fields will be speaking and sign ups have already started. If you know a high school student, let them know this is a great camp to be part of.

Father’s Day is just three weeks away and it’s always a great Sunday here at Mariners Ocean Hills. We like to put together activities and food that guys will enjoy and this year is no exception. We’ve ordered remote control helicopters and will be having helicopter races after service. It’s going to be a fun day, so plan on joining us on Father’s Day, June 19.

Don’t miss this weekend as we continue in our series Things I Wish Jesus Never Said.

Blessing to you,

Jeff

We have some fun news to share with you about our children’s programs here at Mariners Ocean Hills. This past Sunday, we had one of the biggest mornings in Children’s Ministry yet! It’s so exciting to see this ministry thriving and how Maranda, our new Children’s Pastor, is working to make it a warm and inviting experience for all of our families. In addition, summer is right around the corner which means VBS is coming! With a super heroes theme that kids love and worship lead by Tim Timmons, it’s going to be a great week! We also just received all new furniture in our children’s rooms this week in Port Mariners. Be sure and check them out this Sunday.

I’m thrilled we are going public for the first time with our new Ocean Hills Preschool opening in the fall. We also will be rolling out our new electronic check-in for families. As always, we are placing a high priority on convenience and safety. Last but not least, here’s a big thank you to all of the volunteers for blessing our children!

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend. We will take a moment to honor and remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. And of course we will be celebrating Jesus, who paid the ultimate price, so we may be spiritually free as well. It’s going to be a wonderful weekend.

I love doing life and ministry with you,

Jeff

We had a great wrap up of our Community Nights this week. I want to thank all of you who were a part of our five-week time together. Community is such a big part of our church and I love seeing us come together to connect and grow in our relationships.

Our summer calendar is out, so please make sure you grab one on Sunday morning.  We have several fun events planned and we will be kicking off with a luau in June. Yes, there is a very good chance that tiki torches and Hawaiian food will be involved. We are even working on a roasted pig.  It’s sure to be a fun event for all ages.

Also, don’t forget about VBS in July! Start thinking now of children and families you can invite. It is a great week of fun and growth for the kids and also a time for parents to enjoy a small break from the kiddos.

Finally, we will continue in our series, “Things We Wish Jesus Never Said.”  This week’s story is about a situation we can all find ourselves in.  Have you ever given up on God because He didn’t do what you wanted him to do?  There is a very good chance we all have at some point in our lives.

Have you ever traded God for something else in your life? Something at the moment that seemed so big, but years later you wonder why you did it?  This week, we are going to ponder this dilemma in our lives and I think you’ll find Jesus’ response shocking, yet it is so Jesus. It’s another great week to invite someone. I look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Blessings,
Jeff

As a church, I love how we celebrate. And this past Sunday was no different as we celebrated Moms. It was a time to pause and give notice to the women in our lives who make a difference. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made Mother’s Day special.

This Sunday, we will continue in our series, “Things I Wish Jesus Never Said.” And this week is a great passage of challenge and hope.  We will hear something Jesus said and will think to ourselves, “I could never do that. Impossible.”  But wrapped around that interesting challenge is the most powerful reminder of hope and freedom. There are two life-changing proclamations from Jesus, a message that we all need to hear. If you’re wondering if this is a good weekend to invite someone to church, I would say this is the perfect weekend.

This Sunday, we’re having an information meeting about our upcoming Israel trip. We’ll meet at the end of the second service (around 12:15p). If you have any interest in going to Israel, please join us. This meeting is for everyone who is either already committed to going or thinking about going. We will meet in our offices for a brief 30-minute meeting.

Finally, last night we had a great Community Night together.  We were challenged by a Talbot Seminary professor to think about our faith and why we believe what we do. Next week is our final Community Night for the season. We would love for you to join us, whether for the first time or the fifth time.

As always, it is great doing life and ministry with you. We have a great church family that is always looking to reach our community. Way to go!

Blessings,
Jeff

One of my favorite Sundays of the year is Mother’s Day. There is such a blessing in celebrating the women who have made a difference in our lives. We hope you can join us as we will have lots of fun things for you to participate in for Mother’s Day.

This Sunday’s message will be looking at an interesting woman in the Bible. She will show us how to navigate life, even when life doesn’t come together like we hoped it would.

The response to last night’s Community Night was overwhelmingly positive. Everyone had a great time and the speaker was really fun (not to mention I went back to the pasta for thirds).  If you weren’t there, we talked about our personality traits and the personalities of those around us. I had fun giving my daughter the personality test this morning and it gave me great insights into how she is wired.

Next week at Community Night we will be blessed to hear from a professor from Talbot Theological Seminary. He will be speaking on apologetics and it should give you some great food for thought. As always, think about friends that you may want to invite.

Thanks to all of you who have returned your bags for the food bank. We have had an incredible response. Don’t forget, we continue to collect bags this Sunday as well. As you can tell, there is a lot going on, so jump in where you can!

Blessings to you,

Jeff
