What a privilege it is to write to you from our high school summer camp. We have taken 320 students from all of our Mariners Church campuses away for the week and have been overwhelmed with the power of the Holy Spirit and the eagerness of our students to follow Jesus with all that they are. While most teenagers believe the lie that they are not enough, the students at this camp are embracing who they are in Christ and that they are made for more than anything they could hope or imagine for themselves. All week I have been reminded of a promise of Jesus from John 14:12.

“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these…”

Can you imagine having the ability to do even greater things than Jesus? Of course not! It’s terrifying to think we could love, forgive, and restore in ways greater than Jesus, and yet the Scripture is clear. If you remain in Jesus, you have access to the same Holy Spirit that worked powerfully through Him and we will witness God transforming people’s lives all around us.

Our church has been on an adventure learning to depend and lean on the Holy Spirit in new ways. We have witnessed remarkable life change, restoration, and redemption in the name of Jesus and we are not done yet. No matter who you are, you are enough. You are called. You will do greater things than you ever thought possible. You are made for more than anything you ever hoped or imagined for yourself because you are invited into the story God is writing to transform Orange County.

My encouragement to you is to jump in, get involved, and join us in the adventure of becoming more like Jesus.

As the Annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball approaches, Mariners Church looks forward to assisting the young Camp Pendleton wives of the 3/5 Battalion by collecting gently used ball gowns, cocktail dresses, evening shoes, purses, wraps and jewelry. Our Worship Pastor, Caleb Clements, has a new EP available on iTunes and in the Bookstore. The CD is $5 and their family has decided to donate all proceeds to one of their favorite local outreaches, Royal Family Kids Camp, an outreach that supports abused and neglected children.

Like many of you have or will do this summer, I spent the past couple weeks on vacation – connecting with my family, chasing adventure, laughing, and remembering that creating fun and memories is hard work (and totally worth it). I’ve got stories to share about the crazy adventures we’ve taken and all that God has been teaching me in the midst, but for now, as I’ve been thinking about and praying for you, this is a passage that came to mind…

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.  Philippians 1:3-6

God has been at work in and through our church for over 50 years – Jubilee! He has brought freedom, forgiveness, redemption, healing, hope, and life to thousands in OC and around the world and the best news is – He’s not done. In fact, I believe He’s just getting started. I believe the future story of our church is even brighter than the past. I believe God wants to put His love and power on display in ways we can’t even imagine yet, and the great part is that He is choosing you! That’s right – He sees you, knows you, loves you, and has chosen you to help write this amazing story with Him in this next season. I can’t wait to discover all that God has for us together!

Holiday and I will be at Date Night tomorrow night – I’d love to see you guys there. And this weekend, I love that we get to welcome back Doug Fields. He always shares inspiring truth from God’s Word in such a relevant way – this is a great weekend to invite friends and family you’ve been hanging with this summer to join you.
