A Note From Jeff Pries

MessageFrom-OHIt was another great weekend having Jim Glynn teach and sharing about his role on staff here at Mariners Ocean Hills. We are so excited to have him on board and what his experience brings to this church.

The weather is finally warming up and that gets me excited for spring. Spring is a very fun season with Easter, BBQs and our ministries and studies in full swing. Easter is just around the corner, so as a church, please be praying for these services that they may impact this community and also be mindful of people in your life that you can invite.

Love doing life and ministry together,

Jeff

P.S. Just a friendly reminder, we “spring forward” an hour this weekend!

What an incredible day! Last Sunday, 53 people stood up for the first time to say, “I believe” that Jesus’ love and forgiveness is for ME. If you stood up, OR if you’ve never taken the step of being baptized, we want to give you that opportunity. Jesus teaches that when you make the decision to follow Him, the next step is baptism. Baptism is simply an outward expression of the change that’s happening inside. If you would like more information on baptism, email Jeanette, jrivas@marinerschurch.org.

This week, we’re going to look down a different avenue. The avenue of being tired. Sometimes, I celebrate in one area but feel exhausted in another…

No matter the season, I always have at least one component of my life that feels tired. One area that I’m secretly wanting to just give up in. The world will tell you to ignore health or boundaries and grind gears until you can’t go anymore. Jesus says something different… and revolutionary.

Matthew 11:28
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

God says, “I will give you rest. I will give you comfort. I will be your refuge.”

RESTING in God is very different from GIVING UP.

Resting in God means that we no longer seek to control. We no longer grip until we can’t grip anymore. Resting in God means we trust that God never leaves us. He is in the middle with us.

Where are you burdened? Where do you feel ready to quit? What area of your life feels like it needs a nap?

God wants you to experience joy, strength and energy in that area!

Reminder: SET YOUR CLOCKS FORWARD AN HOUR and join us this Sunday (8:30, 10, 11:30a or 6p) as we discuss if the miracles that Jesus did actually mean anything at all for our lives now.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Graeme

Be Fearless

Fearless_logo2016-Compass

Because Jesus has called the church to be in the community for the community, we are committed to practicing an uncommon freedom that calls us into action to help those that are trapped, alone, and afraid in our community and around the world. Join us this Sunday as we respond to the powerful words of Jesus to “BE FEARLESS.”

As part of Be Fearless Sunday, we will have a special, family-friendly serve project following all three services. Are you ready to Be Fearless? Transportation and meal provided.

Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:31-32

MessageFrom-HB

“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.”  Revelation 3:20

Some people think (or act like) following Jesus is a one-time decision then we fall into maintenance-mode and lifestyle management-trying not to screw up in the “big” ways. That’s crap.

Above, Jesus says, “as friends.” Friendship has levels of deepening, knowing, depending. I think that God keeps knocking… on new doors in your life… wanting to take you further in this adventure of life.

You have a door in your life that’s still closed. A place with a “do not disturb” sign on it. A “no-fly zone.”

What if you opened a new door to the God who created everything, knows everything, and whispers to your soul…

“There’s more for you”

“There’s a new level”

“There’s more freedom”

“There’s more joy”

“There’s more possibility”

Maybe Jesus is knocking and you’re ignoring. Or, perhaps, there was a season you ignored so long that now all the sounds in your life are muffled.

This Sunday will be a special day of breakthrough for many. Don’t miss it. Make sure your friend who is dry and disconnected from God makes it to one of our four services-8:30, 10, 11:30a & 6p.

I’m praying for you today, and looking forward to seeing you soon…

It was great to have Roy back with us leading worship this past Sunday. As you know he has been away for a few weeks helping with his brother Steve, who was hit by a car and is currently in a coma. Please continue to pray for Steve and the entire Shenkenberger family. So much of being a church family is coming around others in need, and this is a time when the family continues to need our prayers and support.

We are currently in the third week of Community Nights. The beauty of Community Nights is that you can jump in each week, at any time. I continue to hear stories about people connecting and growing in relationships. Also, it has been a great opportunity to discuss the weekend passage and apply it to our lives. So whether it’s your first time, or the third time, we look forward to seeing you Tuesday night. And of course, the taco cart will be there.

I hope your week is going great,

Jeff
