“The greatest among you will be your servant.”
– Matthew 23:11

This Sunday is going to be great.

On Sunday afternoons, when I run into friends, they often ask me: “How was Sunday?” I have a number of semi-stock answers I give them. Predictably, the nature of the particular circumstances surrounding our encounter dictate which answer I give them. So, if either one of our sets of kids has hit the “wall” – usually set off by things like: too much sugar, not enough sugar, exhaustion, boredom, or general respiration – my answer is short. Like, “Oh, thanks for asking, it was a solid Sunday.” If I’m seated on the couch and my kids are outside, not yet having lit something on fire, nor calling for my services as a “tall person” to retrieve a hula hoop inexplicably stuck in a tree branch, I feel the freedom to go into more detail. I’ll talk about the patio. I’ll talk about the new people I met – the ones invited by their friends. I’ll talk about how much I love being a part of our church. I’ll tell them how I’d choose our church, even if I wasn’t the pastor. But, generally, I say, “I was good.”

But, this Sunday is going to be great.

In the strictest sense of the term – GREAT.  It will be great because our church, and those we invite to join us, will take on the heart of Jesus in the most tangible way. After the 11 o’clock service, nearly 1,000 people will gather at Viejo Elementary school without any agenda, except one: to serve. We’ll sweat together. We’ll celebrate together. We’ll put into practice one of our core beliefs: that the beauty of the church is best expressed outside the walls of our worship center. The church will be truly beautiful this Sunday afternoon.

This Sunday is going to be great.

See you then,

Jeff

If you must know, I had three bacon-wrapped hotdogs last Sunday. Three. If you missed it, we had a great day celebrating our HEROIC DADS.

And there are more great days coming!

This Sunday’s message is another one that I hope sticks with you. It could very literally change the way you look at other people.

It’s almost Father’s Day weekend, one of the most absolute fun weekends in the life of our church and I’m so excited to spend it with you! The patio will be covered with lots of interactive activities – we’ll be chipping golf shots into the lake, slurping root beer with the kiddos, munching on bacon and mac ‘n’ cheese with the family, and checking out the police vehicles and fire trucks. These are just a few of the cool things we have planned. Most importantly, we’ll have the opportunity to put the gospel on display for our community, living out our value of taking our relationship with Jesus seriously, but not ourselves.

The service experience has some fun stuff planned for Dad and maybe even a few surprises. :-) I’m thrilled that Doug Fields will be back with us – teaching God’s Word with a relevant and engaging message for all. And this weekend only Doug is offering his new book, 7 Ways to be Her Hero, for only $11! It will be available for purchase in the Bookstore and on the patio.

This is a weekend you won’t want to miss. Do your friends a favor and bring them to church with you this weekend. I promise you, they will thank you for it. I’ve already invited 2 families from our street who haven’t attended church in years.  Invite a friend to come with you as we gather to celebrate and reflect on the truth of who Jesus is and the way He changes everything.

See you guys this weekend.

Kyle

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!

Don’t let the man in your life miss this Sunday. It’s going to be a lot fun—both inside the theater and on the patio!

Here’s what you can tell the dad, husband, or friend in your life regarding Sunday at Mariners HB:

– Caleb said his message will be extra good and relevant to you
– I’ll DVR the US Open (golf) and watch it all afternoon with you (after church)
– Instead of just me saying “Happy Father’s Day,” how about 200 other smiling people appreciating you too?
– They’re grilling hot dogs! Wrapped in bacon!! And you can have more than one!!!

If you’re not a dad—or if you’re a woman, for example—there’s plenty for you this Sunday, too. It will be a fun weekend for ALL.

Plus, don’t forget:

Zany Mania: Night out for parents, fun night in for kids. More info here.

July 4 Breakfast and Parade: Join us on the Main Street lawn—yes, lots of us… and lots of breakfast. Bring your whole life group or friends from your neighborhood. Details here.

See you soon!

You’re not going to want to miss this Sunday as we have a great weekend planned for the guys. We’ll have pulled BBQ chicken sandwiches, remote control racing, a satellite dish to beam in our favorite sporting events, and some other lawn games. For the kids, we’ll have a bounce house to keep them occupied and having fun. So join us this weekend as we continue in our series, What if? We’ll be looking at a great passage in the Book of Luke, and talking about how to navigate a busy summer, and the idea that we need to take a vacation, just not a vacation on God. And after service, it’s out to the lawn to celebrate and have fun.

I want to thank you all for your generosity towards the Military Baby Shower; it was a huge success. The moms felt incredibly blessed and you were once again incredibly generous. As I talked about this past Sunday, June is the end of our fiscal year budget. Where we end up financially in June is the budget we set for the coming year. At the present time we are moving in a positive direction financially, but still continue to be behind budget. Please prayerfully consider how you can continue to participate with all that God is doing here at Mariners Ocean Hills. I love doing life and ministry with all of you, and appreciate all that you do.

As we are moving into summer, don’t forget to check your calendars for our three “Framly” Summer Sundays, with great events planned for all ages: Barbecues, beach days and a great Sunday night fun night. You will not want to miss these events, so make sure you mark your calendars with these dates: June 29, July 20, & August 3!

Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!

Blessings,

Jeff
