It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood… and a beautiful day to be a neighbor to someone.
I saw this old Mr. Rogers quote today in response to all the pain on television:

The series we’re doing, Christian?, has a lot of people talking…and inviting. I, personally, am loving it. It’s a defining series for our church. We are a church that is committed to surprising people in our city with our love–not our politics, not our doctrine, not our stance on hot topics…our love.
This will be another compelling and challenging week that will make you rethink at how you look at the world around you–and make you wonder how the world looks at you.

I’m not sure how to put into words what happened at the MV campus last weekend. The church was bound together in a common bond of uncommon generosity. Throughout the course of this week, people were still finding ways to participate: signing up to volunteer, contributing financially to the 50 projects, and sharing stories of God’s abundance. So many of you commented to me, as I stood by the door, that there was a fresh kind of electricity — a buzz of God-at-work among us. Maybe, for some of us, we got our first glimpse of what it means to be more than merely a believer in the truths about Jesus. This past weekend at Mariners MV, we lived out the generosity of Jesus together as a group of His followers.
Last week we looked at the idea that while the term “Christian” was an imposed title on the followers of Jesus, the disciples embraced a phrase that spoke to the very core of their identity: followers of the way. This peculiar way was marked, among other things, by a shocking dedication to the needs of the people among them AND to those that clearly did not belong to the group of disciples. Jesus referred to these people (both insiders and outsiders) as “neighbors” in need of our attention and love.
As a community, we gave to projects that will never directly benefit us. And yet, somehow all of us felt as though, in the outpouring of unselfishness, it was us who received an abundance. Because of your overwhelming response, we’re going to give those of you who weren’t able to make it last weekend, or who still would like to contribute, another chance to join in what God is doing this weekend at Mariners MV.
This week, we’ll continue in our Christian? series as Doug Fields will challenge us to continue reframing what it means to belong to Jesus as disciples, apprentices, and “followers of the way.”

Be Fearless! What a great experience we shared last weekend as a church family where we had the opportunity to live as followers of Jesus, committing our time and sharing our resources as we tangibly loved and served those around us. It was so great watching everyone on the patio, joyfully giving to help reach our goal of $500,000 to distribute through 50 partners locally and globally. I love the heart of generosity God is cultivating in our church, and I believe this is only the beginning of what He is calling us toward.
This week, we watched tragedy and devastation unfold across the country in Boston. As followers of Jesus, I was reminded how we are living in a profound season of opportunity, the opportunity to truly love one another–our friends, our neighbors–just as Jesus demonstrated and has called us to do.
If you weren’t able to join us last weekend and you didn’t have the opportunity to participate, don’t fear – there’s still time. This weekend, I’ll be giving an update on where we are in our goal and how to Be Fearless with us! Our good friend, Pastor Muriithi Wanjau from Mavuno Church in Nairobi, Kenya, will be with us this week; inspiring and challenging us all to continue to become all God created us to be. Looking forward to meeting your friends and family this weekend as we follow Jesus together…
