MessageFrom-OH

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. We had so many things happening on our campus, it was truly a fun season. I want to say “way to go!” for being inviters, as we had over 1,000 people in attendance on Christmas Eve. That is almost double from the previous year.

As the new year begins, there is a lot going on here at Mariners Ocean Hills, most notably Rooted. Rooted provides the opportunity for you to join a group of 15-18 people where you will walk through a powerful 10-week experience together. One of our sayings around here is that life change happens in circles, not rows. So if you are feeling like you need a little change in your life, Rooted is definitely for you.

I’m really excited to be back teaching this Sunday morning. I can guarantee that you will never look at prayer the same after this weekend. And, if you are wondering where we are with year-end giving and what is going on with our search for a Worship Pastor, I will fill you in this weekend.  It’s going to be a great Sunday.

Blessings,
Jeff

MessageFrom-MV2

The walls seem bare now. But for a few remnant pine needles on the floor, the place where our proud tree once stood, adorned with all its Christmas-ness is now vacant. I swell with arrogant pride about the fact that my exterior Christmas lights have been removed before some of those “other” people — the un-neighborly ones who have yet to de-decorate.

We’re on the other side of the “holidays” now. We’ve completed the requisite duty to visit our extended family members. We’ve sworn off all things bearing the words “pumpkin” or “peppermint” for at least a year. Gone is the controversy over cup-color from everyone’s favorite coffee chain. We’ve run through the moral implications and family headaches that come with returning those “meaningful” gifts people gave us. We’ve made peace with the fact that we ate too much. So, we’re also re-upping our commitment to that gym we keep paying for. It’s simultaneously a time to return to things as they ought to be AND a time to step courageously into some new things.

The Bible tells the story of new life bursting through in Jesus. Nothing puts that reality on display better than the symbol of baptism. It depicts the burial of an old life with its old patterns of behavior and thoughts and beautifully expresses the picture of a new life that has come in Jesus. This week, not only will we give people a chance to make a first time commitment to Jesus, we’ll also give people an opportunity to be baptized.

We’ll tell God’s story through the Bible. We’ll illustrate in baptism. This will be a great opportunity to include people who have never been to church, never really connected with Jesus, or who are simply curious about God. I can’t wait to see what God does this week at Mariners MV.

See you soon,

Jeff

P.S.: Don’t forget to register for the Refreshing Your Marriage conference at Mariners Church, Irvine (January (29th-30th). Our very own Doug Fields and Jim Burns will lead us through the experience. They’ll weave together humor and real-life conversations to make the “refreshing” experience approachable and meaningful. Last year, the whole Mariners MV staff attended and had an unbelievable time together. Join us. You won’t regret it.

Hi!  This is Neil, your Community Life Pastor.

Happy New Year! How has your first week of 2016 been? Hasn’t the rain brought a sense of freshness and new beginnings to the air? While listening to the rain yesterday it felt like the rain was washing through my soul. Worry and regret seemed to flow right out of me. I thought:

What do I have to worry about? I have so much to be thankful for! A wonderful wife, four loving kids, a great son-in-law, and an amazing 4 month old granddaughter. Plus I have a relationship with God, who loves me greatly, and has my best in mind.

I’m not sure why the rain brought that comfort, but it did. I pray God will bring similar comfort to each of you as you begin this New Year. God is good!

Speaking of new beginnings, if you are have not yet gone through Rooted, I want to recommend you sign up for our winter session starting on January 14th. This Sunday (the 10th) is the last day to sign up.

I promise this experience will amaze you, I don’t want you to miss it! If you’ve completed Rooted but are no longer with your group, consider signing up for a Life Group. We have a group just for you.  These two opportunities are the best way to get connected and build community.

Blessings on you and your family! See you Sunday!

Neil
