In 1995, the Elder Board began the tradition of
selecting a church verse for the year. The process
was rigorous and bathed in prayer. It was important the
verse reflect the season the church was in and also the direction
they sensed God was leading. The first verse chosen was full of hope and
anticipation of what God would do through Mariners in the coming years. The
leadership of Mariners was not aware that this year and verse would signify a turning point in the life of the church.
The church was growing rapidly and quite literally hit a wall. We had run out of room. The Worship Center was full to capacity at all four services and there was no space for new people from the community invited by friends. The campus was land-locked and the city of Newport Beach prohibited more expansion or construction.
