In 1984, As a result of much soul-searching and seeking God, the Board and the congregation went through a series of intense meetings to discuss these very questions. In the first of those meetings, the Holy Spirit worked and moved people’s hearts from anger and blame to repentance and brokenness. Throughout the church, people confessed their hard-heartedness and resentment and began praying for one another. These meetings continued for several nights and afterward, the Board and congregation realized that God wasn’t finished with Mariners Church. He wanted the church to move forward, in spite of the place they found themselves in at that time.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
