Kenton Beshore with wife Laurie at his first event as college pastor

The next job was to recruit a senior pastor. After much discussion and prayer, the Elder Board unanimously agreed to call our 30-year old college pastor, Kenton Beshore. Kenton was reluctant. He saw what was happening around him in the church and didn't think he was the one to turn it around.
But God had different plans. After much prayer, Kenton and Laurie felt God's leading to take the job. Kenton presented the Board with his acceptance letter and a list of five values he would bring to Mariners which would ultimately shape who we would become, more than even he realized at the time.
Kenton's first two sermons were “The Importance of God’s Word,” and “The Church is the Hope of the World.” They were electrifying. Word spread and people began returning to the church in droves.
Built on a base of humility, we listened to God and were on our way. God honored those efforts and the healing process began.
