THE YEAR OF JUBILEE!
“A jubilee for you!” In biblical times, there was to be a celebration every 50 years
to honor God. It was a year of redemption and restoration, a year where debts were canceled and slaves were set free. It was a year of freedom. In that year, poor Israelites who had sold their land or themselves into slavery were released, having done nothing to earn their freedom. This meant no Israelite could ever permanently lose his freedom or his inheritance of land.
The year of jubilee is a reflection of the gospel. Central to the whole gospel message
is that God freely gave what we can not earn. Nothing we have done or haven’t
done changes the fact that God gave His Son to free us from the bondage of sin. Our inheritance as children of God is secure. It is finished. We are free. That is worth celebrating!
As we enter the 50th year of Mariners Church, we are celebrating this as a Year of
Jubilee. The freedom He offered in biblical times is the freedom He wants us to embrace personally as His children. Our loving Father wants us to experience forgiveness, generosity, and healing like never before. He wants us to walk in the fullness of who He created us to be. He wants us to know Him in new and profound ways.
We recognize the work done in and through Mariners over these 50 years is only because of the goodness of our heavenly Father who every day, gives His love and grace freely.
We are no longer slaves to the things that entangle us and keep us from living fully. We can claim the inheritance and birthright as free people, offered by God.
We are free!
