2009
We finished construction of the Chapel and in so doing, created a quiet, peaceful place for worship, prayer and contemplation. Today, the Chapel is a reflective worship space that celebrates the goodness and beauty of God through a variety of expressions.
After three building campaigns, we were amazed at God’s faithfulness and our congregation’s generosity. During the 10 year
period of fundraising, our church also gave $30 million dollars to Outreach Ministries to serve the poor and marginalized

God had given us a beautiful campus. And that’s just how people
began to view it: a beautiful campus with nice buildings. But that isn’t what God called us to do or be. We were reminded that we are in our community, for our community and not just a pretty church on a hill we hoped people would visit.

locally and around the world.
We heard God’s call to reach our communities beyond Irvine and Newport Beach, and after three years of
preparation, Mariners Mission Viejo and Mariners Huntington Beach were launched. Today, these
campuses are thriving! These church families are growing and serving their communities in ways
that are making a significant impact for God’s Kingdom.
God continued to speak to the leadership of Mariners about the
importance of building great disciples, not great buildings. We began to pray and seek wisdom from around the world about what that would look like in our context. How could we light a passionate fire for God’s Word and His gospel in our people? How could we help them seek after God’s heart in their everyday lives and take courageous steps of faith to change the world for His glory?
God was up to something big.
